Field Hockey Program Information

Towsontowne Field Hockey (TTFH) is a program of the Towsontowne Recreation and Parks Council of Baltimore County and is sanctioned by the Maryland Youth Field Hockey League (www.eteamz.com/MYFHL).  Our program is open to both boys and girls from grades 1-8.  TTFH welcomes beginning and experienced players of all ages and mixes players of all abilities on each team as evenly as possible.

Equipment All field hockey players will require a stick, field hockey-approved goggles, shinguards and a mouthguard.  All equipment is available at Dick’s sporting goods or Longstreth.com, as well as other sporting goods retailers.

Field Hockey Season:  The Field Hockey season runs from the last week in August through the end of October, and occasionally extends into the first weekend of November.

Practices and Game Locations:  Practices will be held 2x/week beginning the last week of August.  Practices are usually held at Meadowood, Carver Center, or St. Tim’s. Games will be held on Sundays between noon and 5pm; our home games are held at Meadowood.

Tournaments:  There are occasional tournaments in which your coaches may elect to participate.  There is also an end-of-the-season tournament held in Howard County on the last weekend of the season.  There may be an additional cost associated with a tournament.

Team Assignment:  Our goal is to create evenly balanced teams, which is why it is important for each player to make every effort to attend evaluations in the spring.  Each player will be placed on a team over the summer.  We will do our best to meet all parent requests, but there is no guarantee.  Our first priority is to create teams with a balance of players and experience and ages.

You will be contacted by your coach towards the end of August with your specific team information and practice schedule.  Game schedules are not typically released until a few days before the first game, typically the Sunday after Labor Day.

Evaluations:  Evaluations will take place on MONDAY, JUNE 17th, at Carver Center turf.  The address is 938 York Road, although the entrance off of Kenilworth Ave is the best way to reach the turf.  Please make every effort to have your daughter attend.  If you cannot attend, you must let me know.  FYI-the clinic program does not participate in evaluations.

Evaluations will take place as follows (and are based on grade level in the FALL):

Division                  Check-in Time               Evalution Time
3rd/4th grade               4:30                              5-6pm
5th/6th grade               5:30                              6-7:15pm
7th/8th grade               6:45                              7:15-8pm

Uniform OrdersWe will be purchasing NEW UNIFORMS this year.  In an effort to reduce waste, registration costs will include a uniform that should last for two seasons.  If your daughter needs a need uniform sooner, you will need to cover the cost.  When you arrive for evaluations, you must visit the uniform table and place your order at that time.  If you cannot attend evaluations and your daughter needs a new uniform, you must provide the size information to Jackie Modell (jackiemodell@yahoo.com) no later than June 28th as we must place our order that week.

Clinic Program:  Our clinic program is open to 1st and 2nd graders (and Kindergartners if parents feel they are ready) and is one group of players-there are no teams.  The Clinic program typically begins in early September and runs through the end of October.  Practices are held weekly, typically Sunday afternoons from 4-6.  You will receive an email from the program coordinator with details in late August.  Clinic players may also participate in “play days” organized by our program so that the players get a feel for live ball play.  All clinic players will receive a Towsontowne Rec Field Hockey t-shirt in lieu of a uniform.

Spiritwear: :  We will once again offer the opportunity to order Towsontowne Rec Field Hockey spiritear.  More details to follow!

Parent Code of Ethics and Behavior:  Each parent is responsible for his/her words and actions on the field during games and practices.  Our program and league encourage a sense of fair play and teamwork by emphasizing the positive aspects of the game.  It is the expectation of Towsontowne Rec Council that parents will refrain from making public any negative comments regarding referees, coaches (either home or visiting) or players.
